No More Leniency for Animal Abusers

Animal abuse is on the rise – and our laws do nothing to hold offenders accountable.

In 2024, a man subjected his pet pig, Pan, to horrific abuse — beating, choking, and dragging him by a metal chain.

His punishment? A mere $5,000 fine.

In 2024, A Midvale woman’s Staffordshire terrier-cross was found so underweight that ‘every bone in [its] body’ was visible, and forced to deliver newborn puppies alone. None of the animals had access to water or food.

Her penalty? Another $5,000 fine.

No animal should suffer like this.

And weak penalties are letting offenders off the hook.

These cases are not isolated, and they highlight a disturbing truth: WA's animal cruelty laws are failing to protect vulnerable animals.

We must hold abusers accountable for their actions.

Sign this petition to demand that the WA State Government increase the minimum penalty for animal abuse.

Dear Minister,
Animals deserve better than token fines for life-altering abuse.
The WA State Government must urgently strengthen penalties for animal cruelty to reflect the severity of these crimes and deter future offenders.
I urge you to ensure significantly increase minimum penalties for animal cruelty, including mandatory jail time for severe cases.
Our animals deserve better. Cruelty must have consequences.
