Protect our Endangered Black Cockatoos
Western Australia’s iconic black cockatoos are running out of time.
Habitat destruction, logging, and land clearing are pushing these magnificent birds — already listed as endangered — closer to extinction. Without urgent action, we risk losing them forever.
Black cockatoos, including the Carnaby’s, Baudin’s, and forest red-tailed species, are crucial to WA’s ecosystems. They play a vital role in seed dispersal and maintaining healthy forests, yet their populations are plummeting due to the loss of native bushland, particularly in the southwest.
Despite strong community opposition, habitat destruction continues unchecked. Old-growth forests — essential for nesting and feeding — are being cleared for agriculture, mining, and urban expansion. Even vital roosting sites are under threat.
Now, their survival depends on us.
The Western Australian government has a responsibility to protect these endangered birds. It’s time to stop prioritizing short-term profits over the long-term survival of our wildlife.
Join us to call on the WA Government to:
- Immediately halt the clearing of known black cockatoo habitats.
- Strengthen laws to protect old-growth forests and critical feeding and nesting areas.
- Increase funding for habitat restoration and conservation programs.
Every voice matters. Together, we can ensure these incredible birds have a future in Western Australia’s skies.
