Against animal testing? So are we. Add your name to stop the cruelty.

People in more than 55 cities around the world, Perth among them, are calling for an end to experiments on animals. This petition brings that call home to the people who can act on it. Add your support for our MP, Amanda Dorn MLC, to speak about it in the WA Parliament.

What this petition asks

We call on the WA Government to:

1. Commit WA to replacing experiments on animals with modern, human-relevant methods, with a published plan, timeline and an end date.
2. Cease WA Government funding of animal experimentation, and instead fund the development of non-animal methods.
3. Introduce a mandatory public register of all animal research projects conducted in WA, with every project registered before it begins. Each entry should include at least a plain English summary of the project's aims, the procedures animals are subjected to, the number and species of animals, the funding, and the outcomes once completed.
4. Immediately ban particularly cruel research, including but not limited to forced swim tests, forced smoking tests, Draize tests, LD50, poison bait experiments, xenotransplantation and primate research.

Why now

The science has moved. In 2022 the United States ended its rule that new medicines must be tested on animals before human trials. In 2025 its drug regulator began phasing animal testing out, and its biggest medical research funder put human-based methods first. Australia stopped accepting new animal-test data for cosmetics in 2020. Animal experimentation in science needs to stop next.

Results from animals rarely translate to people. Over 92% of new drugs that pass preclinical animal tests go on to fail in human clinical trials, and access to effective treatments is significantly delayed. Human cell models, organs-on-chips and computer modelling aren't the future any more. They're here, they're available, and they work better, faster and cheaper than the cruel alternative.
