Roberta Vlaar - Candidate for Victoria Park

I’m Roberta Vlaar, and I am honored to stand as the Animal Justice Party candidate for Victoria Park in the 2025 WA State Election.

Growing up along the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) on Whadjuk Country, I have always felt a deep connection to nature and a compelling drive to advocate for all animals. As a primary school teacher currently on leave to raise my four earth-loving children, I am committed to fostering a compassionate and sustainable future for the next generation.

I have served as a dedicated WA State Committee member since 2014, focusing on protecting the environment by championing initiatives that preserve our natural habitats and promote biodiversity. My other passion is improving welfare standards for pet birds and working to enhance the lives of birds kept as companions, ensuring they receive proper care and respect.

In my spare time, I manage a small, home-based animal sanctuary, providing a safe haven for numerous rescue birds and other small animals. Additionally, I run a food waste reduction project, aiming to minimise food waste, redirecting surplus food to those in need and supporting animal sanctuaries. The initiative assists fellow community members facing hardship by offering food relief to individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties.

Roberta's Key Priorities in this Election Include:

• Implementing comprehensive animal protection laws: Ensuring all animals are treated with dignity and respect.
• Supporting community-led environmental initiatives: Empowering local groups to take action in preserving and restoring natural ecosystems.
• Enhancing welfare standards for companion animals: Establishing stricter regulations and support systems for the care of pets, particularly birds.
